| The Wildcats picked up their 3rd District loss in a row in
another close game when they visited the Spartans at Salem's Memorial Stadium on 4/11/01. Team Ace Adam Sandridge started the game for the Cats and pitched 5 innings (97 pitches) giving up five runs (1 unearned) on 6 hits and only 2 walks. A two run homer by the Spartans' Chris Schweiser in the bottom of the 1st put Salem ahead early. The Cats tied it up in the top of the 3rd when Finley Waddell was called safe at 1B after beating the catcher's throw to 1B on a 3rd strike passed ball. Will Herndon, with 1 out, singled to right. Waddell scored from 3rd when Nick Ramsey grounded out to short. Chris Thompson, pinch running for catcher Herndon, was driven home on Brandon Zollman's 5th triple of the year, a huge clout to the upper portion of a mesh fence above the right field wall. The Spartans re-took the lead in the bottom of the 3rd after Chris Schweizer walked, stole 2B and advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch/passed ball. The runner scored as Kirby Hamilton grounded to Waddell at 3B. The batter was called safe on an errant throw to 1B. Herndon made a good play on a pop foul on the 1B side of home plate. Rockbridge managed to tie it up again in the top of the 5th when Adrian Watts tripled over the right fielder's head to bring home Nick Ramsey who singled to get on earlier in the inning. Once again the tie didn't last long as Salem got 2 more runs in the bottom of the 6th as a hard hit ball off of Sandridge's leg scored a runner from 3rd and a wild pitch allowed another runner to score. Jonathan Wilson came on to relieve Adam in the bottom of the 6th with 1 man on and 0 outs. After putting the next two batters on base with a walk and a hit, Wilson got himself out of a jam by striking out two of the next three batters and getting the 3rd to pop up to Waddell.
