Wildcats Take Season Opener It was the first day of Spring but you'd never know it by the weather. Low temperatures and stiff winds made opening day for the Wildcats and their devoted fans one to remember. Despite the conditions, veteran pitcher Adam Sandridge managed to claim the victory over cross county rival Parry McCluer by striking out 7 batters and giving up only 2 earned runs over 5 innings. Josh Kibler came into the game in the top of the sixth with two men on and no outs and managed to deliver the save. Run production was provided by Brandon Zollman and Adrian Watts who each drove in 2 runs. Zollman drove in his with a triple into the gap in right field. Watts hit two line drive singles to deliver his rbi's, scored a run and stole 2 bases to give himself a very productive afternoon. The fifth run came in on a bases loaded walk to Jonathan Wilson. Though there were a few errors in the field, none came back to haunt the home team which failed to capitalize on an opportunity with bases loaded and no outs early in the game. While it was great to get the win, this one was too close for a Wildcat team that has never lost to Parry McCluer. The Cat bats will have to step up a notch when they take on their Blue Ridge District foes. |
