played host to visiting Northside H.S. on Wednesday and they were hoping to
sweep their 1st Blue Ridge foe of the year. Adam Sandridge got the start for the Cats and retired the side in order in the top of the 1st inning. The Wildcats scored 2 runs in the bottom of the inning as Sandridge, coming up with the bases loaded, drove in Nick Ramsey with a shot to left that glanced off the left fielder's glove as he got under it. After Jonathan Wilson forced Brandon Zollman out at home, Will Herndon walked and to bring in Branch. Sandridge took 4 batters to retire the side in the 2nd without giving up a run. The Cats collected 2 more runs in the bottom of the inning on a single by Finley Waddell driving in Kevin Burant who walked and stole 2nd base. Waddell was delivered home on a ground ball to short by Branch. It took Sandridge 5 batters to retire the Vikings in the 3rd after giving up 2 hits. The Wildcats added an other run in the 3rd on a single by Herndon that drove in Adrian Watts, pinch running for Sandridge. The Vikings scored 2 runs in the top of the 4th. A throwing error to 1B by Scott Branch, after he made a great stop of a ground ball near 2B, put a man on. A double by the next batter didn't bring the 1B runner home but the bases were loaded after a walk to the next batter. After picking up a ground ball, Branch tagged 2B for the second out of the inning but the throw to 1B was late. A run scored and another came in on a single to the following batter. The score is now 5-2. The bottom of the 6th saw the Wildcats collect 3 more runs as Waddell sacrificed pinch runner Chris Thompson on a fly to left, Ramsey doubled to drive in Kevin Burant and Branch singled to drive home Ramsey. Josh Kibler came in to relieve Sandridge in the 6th inning and did not give up a run. He faced 7 batters, striking out 4 and giving up only 1 hit. |
