| In his first start of the season, lefty Brandon Zollman managed to keep
the Cougar batters from getting a hit or a run for three innings. He struck out the side
in the bottom of the first and then recorded 4 more strikeouts giving him a total of 7 for
the game before being taken out in the bottom of the 4th after giving up his only
hit. Joe Vita, making his varsity debut, came in to pitch in the bottom of
the 4th and retired 3 of the next 4 batters to close out the game. Offensively, the Wildcats went wild scoring in every inning and winding up with a total of 16 runs. Nick Ramsey led off with a single in the 1st and was driven home by Adrian Watts who then singled to bring Nick in for the first two runs of the game. In the 2nd inning, Zollman drove in Justin Strowbridge with a single and Adam Sandridge scored Zollman with a fielder's choice and error on a throw from short to home. Finley Waddell drove in Watts on another Cougar error. The 3rd inning saw Brandon drive in Ramsey from first on a long triple to right. Watts then scored Zollman with a single and Jonathan Wilson's infield hit drove in Watts who went to 3B on a single by Sandridge. The 4th inning saw six more runs cross the plate on hits by Zollman (3), Watts (1), Chris Thompson (1), and Wilson (1). The Cats didn't have much to do in the field as Zollman kept the Cougars off the bases. Waddell did a great job of knocking down a hard hit ball and making the play at 1B while playing shallow at 3B in the 4th. Scott Branch made a good attempt to double the 1B runner after catching a high pop up in the 4th.
